Steve is known for his devotion to building closer relationships with the software community. At the Council event, Steve will deliver a very special message to the leaders of the Massachusetts software industry, including his thoughts on:

  • New technologies and trends
  • R & D focus for the next 10 years
  • Security
  • Integrated innovation with open standards based interoperability
  • The future of IT spending
  • Partnering with Microsoft

Guest Speaker: Jack Wilson, President, University of Massachusetts
Dr. Jack Wilson was named President of the five- campus, 60,000-student University of Massachusetts on March 24, 2004. Previously, he had served UMass as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and as founding CEO of UMassOnline. As the CEO of UMassOnline, he helped to build the system-wide initiative into one of the largest externally directed online programs in the United States, with 39 graduate and undergraduate degree and certificate programs now serving 14,000 enrollees. Dr. Wilson's expertise in building links between higher education, government and business led to his becoming the co-founder of the Paul Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship, creator of a national workshop series for technology enhanced entrepreneurship education for university faculty, and a national advisory committee member for the Kauffman Entrepreneurship Fellowship Program.

Dr. Wilson's unusual combination of academic excellence, business success, and technology savvy combined with his outstanding leadership skills make him an ideal person to take our state's public university system to the next level.
