Massachusetts Robotics Cluster | Open Source SIG | Controls, Sensors, RFID Networks (CSID)

After a series of Strategic Planning Sessions and a Special Board Meeting under the leadership of Council Chairman George Bell, Trustees decided to expand the Council's reach beyond traditional software. As a result, three new Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are being created and launched over the next weeks and months. The purpose of these SIGs or communities of interest, is to enable participants to meet both in person and electronically to share insights and breaking information on topics of mutual interest.

Members who have ideas for additional SIGs, should send them to president@masoftware.org.

Massachusetts Robotics Cluster
The Massachusetts Robotics Cluster is a newly formed initiative of the Massachusetts Software Council that seeks to bring together key businesses, universities, and economic development interests to focus and build on the critical mass of activities in Robotics throughout Massachusetts. The Cluster will promote the local robotics industry and support its growth through education, networking, and sharing of best practices.

The inaugural meeting of the Cluster was held on June 7, at the MIT Computer Science and AI Lab (CSAIL). Click here to see presentations from the June 7 event.

The Massachusetts Robotics Cluster Organizing Committee Members include Helen Greiner, iRobot Corporation; Dan Kara, Robotics Trends; Bob Metcalfe, Polaris Venture Partners; Joyce Plotkin, Massachusetts Software Council; and Jordan Pollack, Brandeis University.

Open Source SIG
The Massachusetts Software Council Open Source Special Interest Group is being developed to facilitate a dialog between professionals who are engaged in efforts around the topic of open source.

The Mass Software Council Open Source Summit and Open Source SIG Kickoff Meeting will take place on June 24, at the Babson College Executive Conference Center in Wellesley. The Open Source Summit will serve as a basis for further opening the dialog on this very important emerging topic in the software industry. It is expected that all attendees will actively engage in collaborative discussions with panel members.

The Massachusetts Software Council Open Source Special Interest Group Organizing Committee Members include Dan Bricklin, Software Garden; Paul Cormier, Red Hat; Tom Moran, Black Duck Software; David Patrick, Novell; Joyce Plotkin, Massachusetts Software Council; and Bob Zurek, Ascential Software.
